On 26th March 2025, the final negotiation meeting for the renewal of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the Italian Space Agency and the workers of the Luigi Broglio Malindi Space Centre (LBMSC) was held at the Centre. The meeting culminated in the signing of the 2025-2028 CBA. The LBMSC is jointly managed by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the Kenya Space Agency, with a primary focus on orbital control, reception of telemetry from satellites, launchers support, and Earth Observation data acquisition.
During the meeting, ASI was represented by the Director General, Luca Vincenzo Maria Salamone, who attended virtually; Alessandro Preti, Director of Human Resources; Dalila Sabato, Head of the Union Relations Service; Munzer Jahjah, CEO of the Malindi Centre; and Maurizio Toninelli. On the other hand, the workers were represented by Antony Rajoro, the Secretary General Kenya Scientific, Research, International, Technical, and Institutions Workers Union (KRISTAIWU). The Kenya Space Agency (KSA) was also present during the meeting, represented by Lt. Joseph Kagotho Muriithi.
The Director General of ASI expressed his appreciation for the negotiating teams’ efforts, while KRISTAIWU conveyed their satisfaction with the agreement reached. On his side, Lt. Muriithi expressed the KSA's commitment to ensuring the welfare of the LBMSC workers. He also wished both parties well as they move forward with the implementation of the new agreement.
The successful negotiation and signing of the CBA mark a significant step towards ensuring the welfare and rights of the LBMSC workers. Both parties look forward to the positive impact of the new agreement.
